Cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is any harassment that occurs over the internet or the telephone includes sending threatening messages, put unsuitable photos of people on the web, creating profile just to hurt people and teasing others. In NSW stalking is illegal because it may cause psychological harm to the person. In this case, the offender can be fined up to $5,500 or jailed up to 5 years.

There are many methods to stop cyber bullying:
  • do not give private information to untrustworthy people
  • do not give exchange pictures or email
  • do not respond to harassment messages
  • block the bully
  • be a friend and take a stand against cyber bullying.
If you are being cyber bullied, you should:
  • tell a trusted person
  • block the bullied person messages
  • never reply to harassment messages
  • report it to your local police or to the phone service provider if bullying happened over the phone
  • tell the school if you are a student
If the school could not stop the bullying , you can contact or write a complaint letter to the Department of Education and Training or you can seek legal advice. Otherwise you can sue cyber bullying for threatening your life.
